WONDERFUL, VERY LONG FINISH OF JUICY CASSIS AND RASPBERRY FLAVORS.
In certain years when there is no classic Fonseca Vintage Port, a Guimaraens Vintage Port may be made instead. Guimaraens Vintage Ports nevertheless share the origins, heritage and complex fruity style of the classic Fonseca vintages and are drawn from the produce of the same three estates. They differ only in that they are more approachable, ready to drink earlier
BOTTLE LAIN DOWN
DECANTING RECOMMENDED
VEGAN
16ºC - 18 ºC
The Port continues to improve for decades after bottling. The bottle should be kept lain down in a cool place, ideally at a temperature below 16ºC.
Should be decanted before being served. Stand the bottle upright a few hours before decanting to allow the sediment to fall to the bottom of the bottle. Pour the wine in a slow, steady stream into a decanter, ensuring that only the clear wine is poured, leaving the sediment behind.
This Port wine is Vegan friendly

Deep ruby color with fine purple rim. On the nose it presents an impressive depth and intensity of fruit. Elegant and complex berry aromas intertwined with discreet balsamic and resinous notes of garrigue, cistus and wild plants. In the mouth the black fruit flavors show surprising freshness and a thick, tight mesh of tannins provides both structure and volume.
Wonderful, very long finish of juicy cassis and raspberry flavors. This seductive and balanced 2012 Guimaraens perfectly combines the depth and exuberance of Quinta do Panascal with the well-delineated fruit and intoxicating perfume of the Pinhão valley.
The winter leading up to the 2012 harvest was colder than normal, with only 183.6mm of rainfall recorded in Pinhão between November and March. Budburst occurred in the normal period by the third week of March, followed by a period of good rainfall in April and early May. By the end of May the vines were showing low vigor as a result of the extremely dry winter and cooler than normal spring. Continued good weather in June and July provided healthy vine growth, however the small berries and clusters showed low vigor for the year. Painting occurred a little later than normal. At the initial grape evaluation in early August the grapes had low sugar levels and high acidity. The hedges, however, were in exceptional condition for the time of year, allowing the fruit to ripen continuously until harvest time. As a result the harvest started at Quinta do Panascal on September 20th, at Quinta do Cruzeiro on the 21st and on October 2nd at Quinta de Santo Antonio. The harvest was briefly interrupted by some rain that fell on September 24th, but excellent conditions lasted until the end of the harvest.
Winemaker's Notes
"The dry winter and cool spring led to low yields and immense aromatic intensity, to which the fresh ripening season added fresh acidity and purity of fruit. The 2012 displays the rich berry fruit character we expect from Vintage Guimaraens coupled with an attractive freshness and finesse typical of the year."
